How Afrika found a step onto the property ladder

Shared Ownership, Shared Experiences: How Afrika Found a Step onto the Property Ladder

After a change in circumstances, Afrika had to sell her home and move into rented accommodation with her 16-year-old son. While renting, she started to feel the pressure of wanting to invest in a secure, permanent place to call home. However, like all home buyers, Afrika didn’t want to relocate far from her friends, family, work, or her son’s school, which made finding an affordable home a challenge.

That’s when Afrika discovered Shared Ownership at Bridgewater View.  Shared Ownership opened up a new world of possibilities, as it allowed her to buy a share of a property with a smaller deposit than if she had purchased outright. With Shared Ownership, Afrika could enjoy a future-proof home while staying close to everything that mattered most to her.

She shared her thoughts with us:

All the homes in my area were either too expensive, too small, or not suitable for me and my son. When I found out about Bridgewater View, I spoke to my friends, who are solicitors, to learn more about Shared Ownership. They reassured me that this scheme could really help. I also did my own research to make sure I fully understood how it worked.

The best thing about owning a Shared Ownership home is getting that step onto the property ladder, instead of renting. It gives me security knowing that I can ‘staircase’ and gradually own more shares in the future.

We’re thrilled that we could help Afrika make the transition from renting to owning.

Thank you for choosing Torus Homes, Afrika!
